Who We Are

Yuval Avnur is Professor of Philosophy at Scripps College. He is the author of works on skepticism, the spread of information, the history of modern philosophy, and the philosophy of religion. His latest book is Why Read Pascal Today? (Cambridge University Press, 2026).

Corey Tazzara is Associate Professor of History at Scripps College. He is the author of The Free Port of Livorno and the Transformation of the Mediterranean World (Oxford University Press, 2017) and Filippo Sassetti on Trade, Institutions, and Empire in the Renaissance (Routledge, 2023).

Jon A. Shields is Professor of Government at Claremont McKenna College and author, most recently, of The Republican Civil War (Oxford University Press, 2026), with Stephanie Muravchik. His opinion pieces have been featured in the Atlantic, Chronicle of Higher Education, Persuasion, New York Times, and Wall Street Journal.

Stephanie Muravchik is Senior Lecturer in the Government Department at Claremont McKenna College and the Associate Faculty Director of the Open Academy Kravis Lab for Civic Leadership. In addition to collaborating with the CRC to investigate intellectual diversity in the curriculum, she is the author of American Protestantism in an Age of Psychology (Cambridge University Press, 2011) and, with Jon A. Shields, Trump's Democrats (Brookings Institution Press, 2020) and The Republican Civil War: What Liz Cheney's Wyoming Tells Us About a Divided American Right (Oxford University Press, 2026).
